- Secure your wireless network - if you have a Wi-Fi network check your instructions
- Reduce your 'spam' mail
- Backup your files - if you have important information on your computer then look at backing up your files so you don't lose all your stuff

General Tips
- Never give anyone your user ID, PIN or password - that includes your friends.
- Be on your guard with emails that appear to come from banks, credit card asking you to update your security information. Check with your branch or phone banking if you want to know if these are genuine.
- Always type the web address into the browser. Don't click on links in emails.
- Don't enter personal or financial information unless the web address starts with 'https://' and if there's is a small padlock at the bottom of your screen. If the padlock is locked then the site is secure.
- If you are chatting to people on the Internet, don't tell anyone your personal details, e.g. your home address, phone number.
- Don't sign up for a get rich quick scheme. If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.
- Don't open email attachments unless they are from someone you already know and trust. Attachments can contain viruses or other programmes that can destroy all the information and software on your computer.
- If you come across suggestive messages, pictures that make you feel uncomfortable you can report them to your Internet Service Provider.
